My friend took benadryl cough syrup more than 3 tea spoons now he fells a sleep for long time… what can we do to reduce the effect of medicine
what happens when some one drinks half bottle or full bottle… Is it poisonous?

3 teaspoons (1 Tablespoon) is not considered an overdose that would necessarily be lethal- are you sure this was allergy medicine? I was unaware that Benadryl made cough medicine. If they do, disregard my last statement and immediately contact emergency services- overdosing on cough medicine can be deadly.
In any case, it is always best to call poison control immediately, or get him to a hospital or doctor if he doesn’t respond to you when you try to wake him.
Hopefully you’ll just make him really angry by waking him up. :)
Best wishes.

I have bronchitis and my doctor prescribed me couch syrup to help with the cough but it is so disgusting. Everytime I take it I feel like I am going to throw up afterwards because of the taste. I always have a big glass of water and something to eat after but it still doesn’t help. Any ideas on what I can do to make it taste better? Thanks!

soda

Cough syrup brands differ in taste. Why is this the case if the problem and area they’re targetting is one and the same? Shouldn’t their chemical ingredients be the same as well?

By the way I’m factoring out the new ‘flavours’ chemists put in for kids to make it more pleasant tasting, so don’t comment on that part.

The flavor of cough syrups is just a marketing tool, not everyone likes cherry flavored cough syrup. The flavor is used to mask the taste of the active ingredients which taste really nasty and bitter, the rest of the syrup is made up of things like pectin that are used to soothe the throat. Not all cough syrups use the same active ingredients though dextromethorophan is one of the more common and effective drugs used in OTC cough preparations. You should also know that dextromethorophan is just as effective if you take it in pill form and it is easier to get down.

I am in a hospital overseas and am having difficulty getting good answers due to the language barrier.

sometimes, if the mucous is starting to break up. A cough is caused by irritation of the respiratory system, so if the mucous is starting to break up and dissolve, it can cause more irritation and more coughing. But it shows that the mucous and infection is starting to clear up.

My dog was exposed to kennel cough. I took him to the vet and he has been on meds. for 7 days. Still not eating or playing the way he did. I am concerned.

NOTHING does squat for viruses!!!
They’re self-limiting,

My puppy is five months and I have noticed when playing hard she coughs/gags, she also does this sometimes when she drinks to fast but mostly when she is playing hard and running around with my other dogs. She does not throw up and it does not last long. Should I take her to a vet for this ya think?

could be a reverse sneeze
could be nothing
could be something serious
i would talk to my vet

It just happened to my brother, he coughed or threw up a little bit of saliva it seemed, but he just randomly started coughing and choking extremely violently. He does have a pollen allergy, and it is spring, could this be it possibly?

In the back of your throat you have these tiny cells with hairs on them to not let any dust go down your throat. This is why we cough so the cells can get the dust that’s in your throat out. I probably just swallowed some dust or pollen and the cells were finding it hard to cough back up.

Another reason might be that it nearly went into his lungs. Like sometimes when you have a drink and you start choking because it went down the wrong way, its because it actually did go down the wrong way. There are two tubes that go down your throat one is for food and drink that goes directly down to the stomach, and there is a tube that connects off that tube which connects to the lungs. There is a flap of skin that closes the tube when you are drinking and it opens up for breathing. This means that when the water goes down you choke a lot to get it back up out of the tube. That maybe what happened to your brother but it was dust instead.

I have a new puppy that I adopted from the humane society and he caught kennel cough there. I brought him in to the vet yesterday because he was wheezing and coughing all day. They diagnosed him with kennel cough and prescribed him antibiotics and human cough medicine. I have been giving him his medicine since yesterday. I was just wondering if anyone has been through this before and remembers how long it took for their dog to get well. I just feel so bad for the poor thing. I want him to be his pokey little self again.

Kennel cough can last anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks. It does go away. It is the same as the flu for people. He is very contagious to other dogs so keep him home and inside, warm and with lots of water. Ice water will be more soothing to his throat. The antibiotics are to keep it from turning into pneumonia or other secondary bacterial infection. KC is a virus. As the weeks pass the coughing will lessen. Also no collars. only use a harness to keep pressure off his throat. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

I’ve noticed that some folks cough and sometimes spit after eating a good meal. What’s that about?

idk really know it happens to me some times esspecially depending on the food
mexican food, oranges, ice cream, milk. I cough up phlegm after all these. idk I just do

As soon as my local vet’s office opens I am taking my newly adopted 3 month old puppy out because I believe he has kennel cough. Exactly what will the vet do to determine or treat kennel cough if that is in fact what he has?
BQ: My sister has three dogs whom she probably won’t get treated. When my dog is treated and cleared up is it possible for him to catch Kennel Cough again from the untreated dogs?

Kennel cough is extremely contagious for dogs as it is air born

The vet will exam your pup by rubbing up and down on his throat, usually if it is kennel cough the up will cough. Kennel cough sounds like they are chocking and trying to bring something up and sounds horrible.

If it is kennel cough the vet will prescribe an antibiotic for any underlying medical issues and so that the pup will not get pneumonia. They may also give have you give Robitussin Dm to help reduce the coughing. Kennel cough does have to run its course which usually can be 2 weeks but it can also last longer.

When taking the pup in to the vet make sure you tell them you think he has it as they will want you to come in a different door and take you right into a room so as not to infect any dogs that may be in the office.

You can turn on your shower and get the bathroom steamy which can help with the coughing as well.

As for the pup catching KC after he has recovered.. Yes he can, if not vaccinated and is around any dog that has it, whether or not it is showing signs then yes your pup can get it many times.

If your sisters dogs are not recovered from the kc and are not UTD on their vaccinations then you should not have your pup anywhere near them until your pup has received all of his vaccinations.

You should not take your pup anywhere other dogs are or have been until he has completely received all of his vaccinations as he can contract any number of illnesses and diseases.
