what is the differenve between a regualr coughand a dry cough?
im guessing i have alot of mucus cuz thats what is making me cough alot and it hurts alot. is this a dry cough?

A dry cough may be the result of a recent virus, head cold or influenza (flu). It is sometimes called a post-viral cough. The cough is dry, non-productive and irritating, sometimes with a tickly throat. Apart from the cough, you may feel well — your chest is not congested and your breathing is not impaired.

Coughing is the body’s way of removing foreign material or mucous from the lungs and throat.
Acute cough is most often caused by the common viral upper respiratory tract infection. The cough is usually secondary to stimulation of nasal, pharyngeal, and laryngeal mucosa receptors. This results from the secretions of the nose and sinuses draining into the throat.

With a regular cough, something is ejected out of the body. Dry cough: nothing comes out. Kinda sucks

There are many different coughs. You have the "Good Morning Smokers Cough." The asthmatic "wheezie cough", the Cystic Fibrosis "Junkie Cough", the ever so annoying "dry non-productive cough", the loose "strong productive cough"….and a few others…but I am time limited. If you are having a dry cough for a few days now, make sure that you are pushing the fluids. As a matter of fact if you are having a productive cough make sure you are pushing the fluids.

In all seriousness, having a dry non productive cough for more than a week needs to be checked out by your doctor. There is something irritating you airway enough to make you cough.

    Good Luck.
