What should I do if my dog is coughing and throwing up after drinking water?

My dog got his head stuck in a bar on my bed. He choked himself. He seemed fine when I got him out of the bars, but now he randomly coughs and he throws up after drinking water. His eyes are fine and aren’t bloodshot or swollen, and he eats just fine as well. What should I do about the coughing and vomitting problem?
he could have internal injuries you can’t see! get that poor thing to the vet now!

He’s probably bruised his windpipe/neck area – take him to your vet for a check up to be sure what’s going on. He obviously needs to take on water so this can’t just be left ………

If your dog is a short-snouted breed (like a boxer, bulldog, boston terrier….) this actually isnt terribly uncommon because of the shorter esophagus. It sounds like maybe getting stuck between the bars may have caused some bruising to either the trachea or esophagus, or the pressure of trying to breathe while stuck (or any yelping he might have done) could have irritated his vocal cords or the flap that seperates the trachea from the esophagus and prevents water from getting into his lungs. Since it’s late at night (on this side of the planet anyway) just let him sleep and minimize his water intake for a little while. It might help also if the water were ice cold.
