I have allergies like everyone else. I use Claritin to take care of the runny nose, itchy watery eyes, and sneezing. But what about the coughing? I cough like crazy. I do the Albuterol and cough drops but it feels like they only help me 10% of the time. I still keep coughing and have a hard time sleeping at night. I'm coughing right now as I write this. I'm thinking about investing in an air purifier, maybe it will help with the coughing I don't know but what do I have to lose. So if there is anyone out there that can help please provide me with your answers. Much appreciated.

Look for a cough syrup with dextromethorpham listed as an active ingredient. It is a cough suppressant. If the coughing is due to post nasal drip take Benadryl as well.

Delsym is awesome non-sedating cough syrup. I'm allergic to the world and this stuff keeps me from being miserable. You might also want to consider this: your Claritin might not be cutting it. Singulair is awesome and has really cut down on all my coughing from allergies/asthma. There is an inhaler and a pill, so talk to your doc about which Singulair might work best for you. Your doc might have samples for you to try, so think about that option. In the meantime try the Delsym, it's wonderful.

I would also change your a/c filter and get a new pillow before spending money on an air purifier. The good air purifiers are the Honeywells like they use in hospitals, and the filters a great deal pf money and must be changed often.

We use 3M allergy filters for our central a/c and it really makes a huge difference in the amount of dust/allergans that gets though. Your pillow should be replaced every 6 months if you have allergies, it gets full of dust mites and will make you miserable.

Best of luck hon, hope you get some good and quit that coughing!

What kind of cough is it. Is something dripping down from your nose tickling your throat.

Is it a dry tickle in your throat then a humidifier may help.

The medicine should be stopping the drip from the nose down the throat.

If you don't have the dripping and the tickle is in your chest. I would loosen this with some Vick's vapor rub on chest and nose and the humidifier.

One concern If you are taking the allergy medicine a long time you might want to get your heart checked.

Coughing can also be nerves if there is no mucus or dry tickle. If you take a deep breath in and out and and can hear anything but air cough this would indicate lose mucus which should be taken care of by the allergy meds. This will also indicate if it is dry needing humidity.

For sleep I use Nyquil but have not used it since laws have changed and it may no longer stop the runny nose, itchy watery eyes and sneezing ask the pharmacist.

My sister has an excellent air purifier but it cost $500.00
