15 Month old coughing due to runny nose from slight cold or allergy, what can I giver her?
23.September, 2009
Pedi suggested toddler Dimmetap but it really doesn’t help and it keeps her from sleeping and makes her really cranky. She’s coughing because of the draining in her throat. Humidifier also seemed to make her cough more. Any suggestions on a decongestant that works and doesn’t cause excitability irritability? Has anyone tried the baby Vick’s vapor rub?
This may be a bit early, and it doesn’t exactly answer your question, but if it’s an allergy. NAET might help her. I had numerous allergies that made me suffer through the same things your baby’s going through and now I only get those symptoms when I have the flu. She may be too young, but it’s never too early to start thinking about it:

Why didn’t the pedi give you something? It’s bad to give a medicine(over the counter) to stop the coughing, that’s the body’s way of getting rid of the congestion! So, as you do the humidifier treatment pat her on her back and sides, then when she coughs have a bulb ready to remove any phlem, if she can’t cough it up herself. Do that about 3 times a day if it’s very bad. I use vapor rub even on cold nights, it does help. Most otc medi’s are drowsy, if all else fails give her a little benedryl.
Good luck

Check with your pharmacist. There are many new products out there, that your Doctor may not know about.
Also, watch out for red dye and sugar in her meds, they can make her excitable and, therefore, cranky.
