Is it possible to have a productive cough (phlegm) and NOT have bronchitis or pneumonia?

I came down with a bad head cold a few days ago and now it’s in my chest. I’m not having any other problems (fever, chills, wheezing, etc.) and I’m wondering if I should go to the doctor. Can I have a productive cough and have a simple chest cold, or does it pretty much guarantee bronchitis?

well i get this every cold I get…every flu as well, pain in the donkey actually.
