How can I cough up phlegm?

17.January, 2010

Gah! Okay my mom was sick and now I have a cold!
So now I have mucus stuck in my throat and I can’t cough it out.
I tried the boiling water method. [Inhaling steam]
I tried hot shower.
Salt water.
Everything!
Now I can’t get up and get medication at 3:47
Please help me :(
The best is to get expectorant from the pharmacy. But if no pharmacy is open, try some honey. The other thing, most people can increase the mucus they make with dairy products, more mucus would make it easier to cough it up (we call it more productive). Hot food (spicy) also makes the "juices flowing", thinning the mucus, make it more managible. Anything that brings tears to your eyes, and your nose running would do the same thing to the mucus in your lungs. Chillies definitely do this. Also, hot tea, perhaps with lemon?

There is a tea called Throat Coat and another called Breathe Easy by Traditional Medicines, both help open up the throat and clear mucus.

    Try a ginger tea

sometimes a little tapping on the chest and back (by the lungs) can loosen the phlegm

hope you are feeling better soon
