I am having continuous dry cough since one year and hence I am not able to breath freely like normal person. The cough starts only when am travelling or else while taking spicy food. I consulted several docters and took medicine as per thier prescription. There is no result. Can anyone please help me with some tips of some home made medicine to get out of this trouble?

Drink water with honey, suck on cough drops or hard candy, try to stay away from dry air, get a small peel of ginger sprinkle it with salt and chew, check around for mold or mildew, put hot packs on your chest, try taking vitamin A,C, and E, and/or inhale steam! Hope this helps!

i do not have a vaporizer, and the closest walmart openright now is over two hours away and its 1am :( I need help. can this dry cough turn into pnemonia, even though there is no mucus?????
i live in missouri.

Turn the shower on hot..close the bathroom door and sit in there and read a book with him.

Best I can tell you is with whooping cough you aren’t in danger it just sounds bad. Get to the doctor though so he can listen to his chest and make sure there aren’t other things causing the cough like an ear infection.

When you do get a vaporizer get a cold mist one. Warm mist vaporizers are germ dens.

i have tried taking cough syrup but it doesnt seem to be helping my dry cough. anyone know any herbal remedies?

for dry cough use dextromethorphan syrup or pholcodine

i put a tsp of honey and lemon juice in hot tea and it’s not helping. I have been taking Nyquil and it’s not helping! i gargled with salt water, I have sucked on cough drops . i don’t know what else to do ? when i cough it feels like my throat is scratchy its miserable. i cant afford to go to the dr. what should i do? i have a temp but when i take nyquil it goes down a little bit but comes right back.

Determine why you have this dry cough. If it is disease-related make sure your doctor knows your condition so he can prescribe medicine for the cough that will not interfere with other medication you may be taking.

Step
2Drink plenty of fluids. Keeping your body hydrated goes a long way to reducing and ultimately getting rid of dry cough. Drink warm liquids when the air is warm and drink hot fluids when the air is cold.

Step
3Take an over-the-counter cough suppressant medicines. Do not choose a medicine with expectorant as these products make you cough to bring up the mucus that is causing the cough. These do not generally work well for dry cough since you want to stop it.

Step
4Buy a humidifier to use in your bedroom. Use this nightly to keep the air moist so your passageways do not dry out overnight. Alternately, try a hot steamy shower and breathe in the steam.

Step
5Suck on cough lozenges whenever you can. This will keep your mouth and throat moist.

Step
6Quit smoking. One of the side effects of smoking is the "smokers cough" which is a dry hacking cough. Most of the time the smoker experiences coughing attacks first thing in the morning but they can occur anytime.

Step
7See a doctor if the cough persists for a few weeks. A dry cough can be a sign of a more serious condition.

I have been a non-smoker for 4 months ,achieving this by way of Chantix, I no longer take chantix and I feel fine….All but this dry cough at night, its all but waking me up during sleep, could this be associated with no longer being a smoker?

I dont have chills, fever, runny nose, nothign else indicating that i might be sick

Any idea?

I believe it is normal. It is the process of your lungs recovering, almost like a wound that feels itchy when it starts to heal.

Every now and then when I cough, phlemn [sp?] comes out and I have to spit it out, PLEASE I NEED HELP.

Any cough persisting more than a week, should be evaluated by a physician. Here are a few simple home remedies that will help to overcome cough. Suck a whole clove without chewing it to soothe a cough. Apples bring a great relief to a person with dry cough. Check out http://useinfo6.blogspot.com/ for more remedies and information.

Treating a dry cough is different than treating other types of coughs since dry cough is considered non-productive cough that should be suppressed if possible. There are many reasons why a dry cough may develop. It’s best to determine the cause of the cough so that you can embark on the right avenue for treatment. Some chronic illnesses have a dry cough as a side effect and for these conditions, the medicine your doctor provides should ease the cough as well. For other dry coughs there are additional treatment possibilities.

Things You’ll Need:
Cough suppressant
Humidifier
Cough lozenges

1. Determine why you have this dry cough. If it is disease-related make sure your doctor knows your condition so he can prescribe medicine for the cough that will not interfere with other medication you may be taking.

2. Drink plenty of fluids. Keeping your body hydrated goes a long way to reducing and ultimately getting rid of dry cough. Drink warm liquids when the air is warm and drink hot fluids when the air is cold.

Hope this helps…

dry cough?

12.October, 2009

what is the differenve between a regualr coughand a dry cough?
im guessing i have alot of mucus cuz thats what is making me cough alot and it hurts alot. is this a dry cough?

A dry cough may be the result of a recent virus, head cold or influenza (flu). It is sometimes called a post-viral cough. The cough is dry, non-productive and irritating, sometimes with a tickly throat. Apart from the cough, you may feel well — your chest is not congested and your breathing is not impaired.

Coughing is the body’s way of removing foreign material or mucous from the lungs and throat.
Acute cough is most often caused by the common viral upper respiratory tract infection. The cough is usually secondary to stimulation of nasal, pharyngeal, and laryngeal mucosa receptors. This results from the secretions of the nose and sinuses draining into the throat.

My horse has started to cough again. She didnt cough all winter, until now. She did cough before winter adn she sometimes would spit out some grass or hay that was in her mouth. What can i do besides wetting her grain and hay. It does help a little bit to wet her food, but she still coughs. She is on electrolytes. She has a dry cough. What else can i do to help her?.

I’m curious as to why she is on electrolytes? Unless she has diarrhea and is losing significant fluids, is sweating profusely, or is losing body fluids some other way, she doesn’t need them. Feeding electrolytes on a regular basis has been linked to causing ulcers. At best, you would be wasting your money, and at worst you could be doing harm.

Anyway, here is a link to help you figure out the cause of your horse’s cough so you’ll know what to do…be sure you scroll all the way down so you see all of the possibilities…………………

Good luck with her.

My doctor gave me penicillin for a week to get rid of laryngitis because she said I also had spots on my tonsils. Now I don’t have spots, but my throat is still sore and tight and I still have dry coughing spells that even wake me up at night. I’m taking an antihistimine. Could it really just be allergies causing continued sore throat and swollen tonsils?

It could be seasonal allergies if you do have them. Sometimes, though, a week isn’t long enough to kill some infections such as tonsillitis, you need 10-14 days. I would just watch your throat and take it easy over the long weekend and see how you feel come Tuesday. If you do get a fever or the spots return, call the ER or an emergency clinic and be seen. Tonsils can abscess if they aren’t treated in a timely manner.
