What will the doctor do for my 9 month olds awful cough?
25.January, 2011
He caught a cold from the dr office I believe last week.It started with sneezing then runny nose and now its the runny nose with a bad cough. The cough has gotten worse the last 2 days.He has no fever, but the cough is terrible.I don’t want to take him to the ER tonight because I don’t know what they will do and he is sleeping soundly now.I am going to take him to the doctor in the morning.Does anyone know what she will do?
If the diagnosis is croup, then he’ll probably get an oral dose of steroids and some antibiotics. If the doc suspects whooping cough, there is a nasal swab test. If the baby is wheezing, he might get a nebulizer treatment.
There are many different kinds of coughs. If he’s sleeping well now, that’s a good sign, as whooping cough and croup tend to get worse at night.
How do you get rid a really nasty cough?
03.January, 2011
I have had this cough for a few days. I cough and nasty stuff comes up when I cough.
I have been taking cough medicine but it hasn’t really been working!
So, if any of you know anything to make it better please tell me!
Thank you in advance!
I’ve been coughing so hard that my left side has started hurting!
Most coughs will eventually just go away on their own after a time. Cough medicines are known to be pretty useless! The best thing if it’s annoying you at night is to fill a bowl with boiling water, and then to get a big towel and put your head over the bowl with the towel over your head so that you breathe in the steam. You can add Olbas Oil to the water if you want to, but it’s not necessary. Obviously you have to be careful that you don’t burn yourself, but it’s a FANTASTIC way of calming a cough and helping you get to sleep (as well as clearing your sinuses if you’re bunged up).
If the cough is really bad you might need antibiotics, but you should know yourself whether it’s horrible but going to get better, or whether it’s really bad and needs a bit of help to improve.
Good luck!
What is the most effective way of sucking on a cough drop to make it work the best?
28.December, 2010
I’ve tried 2 different kinds so far for my sore throat and cough. Right now I’m using cepacol sore throat + cough. It numbs my cheeks and tounge but doesn’t do anything for my sore throat or cough.
I put it on the back of my tongue where it presses against the soft palate when my mouth is closed, then try to keep my mouth closed. It takes a long time to dissolve but seems to deliver more stuff to my throat.
How long should a cough last for a 6 year old boy?
25.October, 2010
My 6 year old brother has been coughing for 22 days now. It’s NOT accompanied by mucus or phlegm. It’s a dry cough that won’t leave. Sometimes there is only a 2 second interval between coughs. We’ve taken him to the doctor twice. Both say there’s nothing wrong with his lungs (thank God) and have simply prescribed antibiotics and cough syrups. They haven’t been working at all. We’ve also tried tons of natural remedies. Nothing seems to work. Please help. We’re desperate and anxious.
Could be allergies or dry air. Or it simply could have developed into a subconscious habit. IMO I would forget about the cough syrups and antibiotics. Instead use lozengers (not cough drops but the soothing ones like Ricola, Nice, or Cepacol), warm teas, and honey.
So, I was sick last week with flu, had fever and runny nose..now one week later i feel ok, the fever’s gone but my nose is still runny and i have a persistent cough. Any ideas on home made remedies to ease the cough?
Also, you can try some diphenhydramine (Benadryl) from your pharmacy.
I have a cough and it doesn’t really bother me during the day but at night, I can’t sleep comfortable at all because I won’t stop coughing.
I was prescribed a cough syrup containing codeine a year ago and it worked wonders!
But, clinics are closed right now and I want to sleep well tonight.
I don;t know, but codeine is a cough suppressant
I know in Australia, codeine was recently further restricted due to problems with addiction, so it may be restricted where you as as well and as such prescription only
Like if I was drinking a slushy or eating ice-cream, I’d start to cough while eating it.
Like eat, cough, eat, cough.
Then when I finish eating/drinking the cold thing I stop coughing.
Doesn’t hurt or anything like that, and I’m not sick while doing so because It’s every time I eat/drink something cold.
And the cold thing is usually some kind of drink or desert.
Ice is included.
Icy thing have an adverse effect to your throat, a sort of allergy.
To overcome this you may start taking a very small portion, 2 to 3 times daily.
If there is sign of improvement, increase the intake slowly.
After a period of time icy stuffs will post no effect on you throat.

What are some home remedies to sooth a cough?
09.May, 2010
So i have this really bad cough and i ate all my cough drops and i have no medicine and i can’t get any till tomorrow. Is there anything that i can make at home that can sooth it?
Can’t believe no one has submitted "grandma’s home remedy." Whiskey, honey, and lemon — equal portions of whiskey and honey with a squirt of lemon juice. Take a tablespoon at a time. We took it as kids (oh the horror!) but it really did work. (Take enough and you don’t care if you have a cough LOL!) The lemon breaks up mucus, the whiskey numbs the raw nerves, and the honey soothes — basically the same thing cough medicine does but without the unnatural chemicals.
Get rid of hacking cough and irritated itchy throat?
30.April, 2010
I had a mild cold about two weeks ago and then developed a hacking cough and very irritated and itchy throat. I just keep coughing, every time I breath it seems to irritate my throat. I’ve tried cough drops, cough syrup, vitamin C (2000% a day) and it’s not getting better. Any other suggestions?
