My friend took benadryl cough syrup more than 3 tea spoons now he fells a sleep for long time… what can we do to reduce the effect of medicine
what happens when some one drinks half bottle or full bottle… Is it poisonous?

3 teaspoons (1 Tablespoon) is not considered an overdose that would necessarily be lethal- are you sure this was allergy medicine? I was unaware that Benadryl made cough medicine. If they do, disregard my last statement and immediately contact emergency services- overdosing on cough medicine can be deadly.
In any case, it is always best to call poison control immediately, or get him to a hospital or doctor if he doesn’t respond to you when you try to wake him.
Hopefully you’ll just make him really angry by waking him up. :)
Best wishes.

I have bronchitis and my doctor prescribed me couch syrup to help with the cough but it is so disgusting. Everytime I take it I feel like I am going to throw up afterwards because of the taste. I always have a big glass of water and something to eat after but it still doesn’t help. Any ideas on what I can do to make it taste better? Thanks!

soda

Cough syrup brands differ in taste. Why is this the case if the problem and area they’re targetting is one and the same? Shouldn’t their chemical ingredients be the same as well?

By the way I’m factoring out the new ‘flavours’ chemists put in for kids to make it more pleasant tasting, so don’t comment on that part.

The flavor of cough syrups is just a marketing tool, not everyone likes cherry flavored cough syrup. The flavor is used to mask the taste of the active ingredients which taste really nasty and bitter, the rest of the syrup is made up of things like pectin that are used to soothe the throat. Not all cough syrups use the same active ingredients though dextromethorophan is one of the more common and effective drugs used in OTC cough preparations. You should also know that dextromethorophan is just as effective if you take it in pill form and it is easier to get down.

Just went to the doctor for a severe chest cold and bronchitis and got prescribed cough syrup with codeine in it. Along with the cough, chest pain, and ear aches, I am also experiencing severe back pain from straining while coughing. Will the cough medicine also help my back?

Yes that should help.

I have a really bad cough, and I’m taking this Chinese cough syrup. It’s fabulous, but they say you should only take three spoons a day – I suppose that’s for average, Chinese customers, not a big German guy like me who weighs 250lbs and is 6.5′ tall?
So, if I take like two to three spoonfuls three times a day, will I be OK?

"Cough syrup" is a very broad description – there are a whole lot of things that can be in cough syrups. Some are completely harmless and can’t be dangerously overdosed, some can kill you if you take too much…
So, as long as you can’t give all the ingredients, nobody, not even a doctor, can tell you what will happen if you triple the normal dose.
Height and weight have an influence on how much of any medication you need, but they’re by far not the only things that do. Did you ever have to take higher-than-average doses of other medicines? If yes, it is probably safe to take a little more of that cough syrup, but I would not just try it, I’d ask a doctor. Better safe than sorry, right?

Don’t tell me I’m making a bad choice. This site is for answering people’s questions. Purple Drank" or "Sizzurp" is cough syrup mixed with Sprite and jolly ranchers, getting you high. Can the yellow cough syrup containing promethazine get you high like the original purple drank?
And how much of the cough syrup should I pour in my cup?

yeah you are making a bad choice. sizzurp is hella bad. try salvia or weed.

I am taking Robitussin cough syrup to help with my cold. It’s helping, as far as I can tell.

However since I started taking it my urine has smelled weird. It is very strong and very noticeable to me.

A close friend asked me if the medicine was helping any, and I told her it was but mentioned the smell and she says it sounds like there’s something wrong with my liver.

You are probably not drinking enough and your urine is very concentrated which can create a strong odor. It would also be a darker in color if this is the case. Drink more and see if it helps. I have never heard of cough syrup causing an odor in urine. Just doesn’t make any sense medically speaking. No, liver problems does not make the urine smell either unless you are in the very end stages of a terrible liver disease and getting close to total liver failure. If that were the case, you would certainly know it and have a lot more worse symptoms happening besides a strong smell to your urine.

Per 5ml of this cough syrup there is 0.75g of Glycerin. What is Glycerin and what will happen if you have too much?

Probably just puke it up. Too much cough syrup with other ingredients can kill you. Cough syrup with only dextrom…something will get you high (after you throw up).

I’m sick so I need ti take the cough syrup because my doctor prescribed it for me, but I can’t figure out if I can take ibuprofen too. I’ve googled it but can’t find a definite answer.

NO!
That’s absurd.

I recently got a really bad cold from my son, which when we took him to the doctors they told us it was his allergies and sinuses, well the next day me and his dad both got it. anyways, i was wondering if it was okay to take my prescription cough syrup that expired on 6/2010? its only 2 months ago. but it still looks the same as when i first got it not even a year ago.

How it looks means nothing. Drugs have an expiration date for a reason. They may have changed chemically and no longer be effective or they could even do harm or have the opposite effect that they were originally intended for.
There are plenty of very good cough syrups available over the counter at any local drugstore.
