Hard Cough

I recently quit smoking, and as usual for most people I have an annoying cough. It’s not as bad as it could be though since I only smoked 2 packs a week on average. Is it okay to use cough drops or cough syrup to suppress the cough or do I need to let myself cough?

As your lungs are healing (the cila growing back) your lungs are trying to expel the crud that has been in them for the period of time you smoked. You should try and cough it out. If you are feeling ill in any other way I would advise seeing a doctor for a chest xray just to be sure. Good luck.

Well i’ve been have my cough for about a week now.I used to have a sneezes with my cough too but its gone.Do you have any home remedies so i can get rid of my cough this will mean alot. I couldnt even go to church because of it. Please answer.

Umm maybe if you chew up some garlic and swollow it. That works sometimes.

The purple medicine that the doctor prescribes for me just doesn’t work. I remember enduring for a week the awful taste of that medicine and nope, no effects. I’ve been using cough drops in school but there are times, the cough drops will just not get rid of the cough. Are there any natural remedies or cures you would recommend?

Herbal teas green tea especially but I use thera flu not natural but works right away.

I can’t stop coughing, its definitely chest congestion. My nose is also congested. The problem is that it isn’t productive, absolutely nothing comes loose when I cough. Its so bad that I have to cough about every 30 seconds.

I have tried Halls (Honey Lemon) cough drops and tried generic cough syrup, but neither has worked.

What is the best thing to take for my kind of cough?

you need a cough syrup with an expectorant in it. drink lots of fluids but stay away from milk products because they make mucus.A product for decongestion for your nose.you can by a cold medicine that has both of these in it that is generic you just have to read the labels.I prefer syrup in the fridge because it feels better on your throat. also if you go to the doctor he can prescribe you a nifty little cough pearl that will get rid of any cough you might have.

I have been smoking quite heavily for 7 months, and developed a very chesty (sounds like smokers cough) cough with alot of mucus. After the antibiotics are finished (they work perfectly) the cough returns in a matter of days. I am planning on quitting the smokes from today, but just wondering why it keeps returning, should i see my doctor and get chest x-rays, and any ideas on how long it will take for cough to go away? Thanks.

COPD, look it up or you could have a viral lung infection which is why the antibiotics don’;t actually cure it.

I recently quit smoking, 4 days ago. I started coughing last night. It is a productive cough. I have a dr appt for later this week. Just wondering if anyone else has anything similar happen.
If anyone has been thru this, how long will I keep this up? When will it get better?

Yes, isn’t that strange? I never coughed when I smoked, only when I quit. I was told that your body starts purging itself of toxins as little as 4 hours after quitting. Wild huh?

Im 16 now. i smoke like maybe once every week or once every two weeks. i started smoking when i turned 14. and when i inhaled the smoke to my lungs i coughed HARD! and for a long time to. i mean my eyes were watery and it made me cry cuz the coughing. why is that? it happens to every one. BTW– After like the 3rd time i smoked a Cigarette i didnt cough.

your body is not used to the smoke. Some people have this terrible cough even when they’ve been smoking for a while, obviously because smoking has taken a toll on their lungs. Perhaps you are asthmatic and you cannot handle the smoking. You should quit right away before it’s too late and you become a true addict. Smoking for a long time can lead to COPD which is a pulmonary disease making you more susceptible to sickness, like frequent bronchitis and colds and all that great stuff and in the long run, emphysema….it’s bad.. you should stop immediately. besides it will make you look older sooner. Nobody wants to look older than they are,especially when you turn 30 or 40…ew.

What is it called in english when we start to cough for breathing air while driking? While driking, if we try to breath air, a little water goes in our breathing system and we cough. So what’s that called? I know it is not hiccup, because hiccup is the construction of diaframe.

I have a three year old daughter that has been diagnosed with Pertussis (Whooping Cough). The coughing spells are horrible. She is on an antibiotic and steroids. Cough syrups are useless. I was just curious if any of you have any suggestions or ideas for cough suppression.
