My doctor told me that is a symptom of asthma when I had this problem in April with a mild case of bronchitis. I currently have an upper respiratory infection and even though I don’t cough too much during the day, I take cough syrup and my antibiotics as prescribed, within a couple of minutes of laying down, I get this TERRIBLE cough. I am not even really coughing anything up anymore. It sounds like a barking seal! I am going to ask him if I need to be tested, but while I am incredibly tired but awake at 1 AM, I thought I’d ask the Yahoo Answers community! :-)

i have asthma and have had it since i was little. and i always cough more and find it harder to breath at night because of the temerature change. the air gets colder at night making it harder on your lungs. if you can get an asthma puffer that would help. i take 2 puffs of that before i go to bed and i sleep fine. then i take another 2 of a morning. go to your doctor and ask about it and he will suit you with one that you need :) hope i helped. x

hurts when i cough and breath in right lung at the side, whats wrong?

When you have asthna it will hurt when you cough. Go see a DR. see what he can do for you.

Coughing and puking after running can be a signal of one of many things. Two that come to mind are; 1) you’ve eaten too much before running or 2) You suffer from food and pollen allergies.

If, however, you experience any sort of tightness or in your chest or feel restriction in your breathing, like you can’t get enough air into your lungs within a few minutes of running, then yes, you probably have asthma. Either way, definitely something you need to address with your doctor.

so i got sick about three and a half a week ago, or well i started coughing and thought it was my seasonal asthma. I didnt get an inhaler until a week after to which then i started getting a sore throat, wheezing, no fever, couldnt sleep for two nights because of the cough, it was always worse when i laid down. i went to the doctor then and they told me i had a viral infection so i stayed home and rested. it was a week later when i started feeling better, less coughing, but still there. I started to loose my voice and then i had a click in my throat. I went back to the doctor for the click and they were stumped and didnt know what it was. the doctor said it could have been allergies so she gave me claritin to stop the cough. It did stop it for a while, but it still persists. It feels like i have to cough every second.

anyone know what I may have? any suggestions? thanks in advance.

you probably do have or had a viral flu, all the symptoms seem there. however the "clik"? sound is something else. my guess would be that you have something trapped around the epiglottic opening to your trachea, or perhaps something in the tracheal area. not knowing what you mean by a clik in your throat and not being able to visualize or hear it makes it impossible to be anything but guessy at your problem. however if your doctor seemed unconcerned with it, not even getting an xray, then i’d go to another for evaluation. an inhaler doesnt seem like the correct treatment for the clik issue. probably nothing at all. the flu issue has been troublesome, especially the persistent cough. also lasting fatigue and malaise

Around Christmas, I got a bad cough. My cough has gotten better but I still cough a lot and it’s been almost a month. I also have trouble breathing and wheezing. I’ve never had any asthma symptoms before but I don’t know. My dad had asthma when he was kid if that matters. I’m 13 years old

Based on your family history of Asthma, you’re now suffering from Asthmatic problem.wheezing is a positive sign of Asthma plus it is accompanied by persistent cough.though it looks like a mild attack but you should take Salbutamol syrup or just Ventolin syrup.

Lately when I walk more than a short distance I cough badly and almost puke. I have bad asthma, should I worry? I’m sick, but not badly. And my cough sounds horrible because I live with a veavy smoker. (Not asking for adive on how to get my mom to quit.) But lately I almost puke when I get out of breath and I’m wheezing even when I’m sitting. Should I call my doctor? or is it just asthma?

yes worry, and get to the doctor, asthma is serious, and that needs treated, there’s not a lot of information to go on, but, yes see the doctor.

My Son has a cough that he got with a cold (the whole family has it), he isn’t really unwell apart from a nasty cough. I have upped his inhalers as the doctor suggested, but he is still coughing a lot.

He has a preventer and a relevier inhaler, but i wanted to give him some benylin before bed – would this be ok?

Hello, Thanks for the great answers so far. I have been holding for NHS Direct for 25 mins now, just thought i would post on here in the off chance.

We had Archie at doctors on Friday with his cough and he said it wasn’t asthma related, but as a result of a virus ..

I will keep holding – many thanks again

Call a nurse on call and ask. Read the label to see if it says not to take it with any other medication.

I have been to the doctor several times and they just say my asthma in not under Control. Dahhh! I know that but what else can I do other than use my inhaler all the time.

Serious replys Only!

The dr needs to put you on a controller inhaler in order to get your asthma under control. Controller inhalers such as Symbicort or Advair usually work pretty well. They contain a long acting steroid (for the inflammation) and a long acting bronchodilator (for the bronchoconstriction). You take it twice a day… usually once in the morning and once in the evening. Your other inhalers such as Albuterol, combivent, atrovent, etc… should only be used as rescue inhalers…meaning they should only be used when you are having an asthma attack. If you start taking a controller inhaler, you will use one of the other 3 I mentioned inbetween the controller doses. You should only use your controller inhaler for controlling your asthma and never for when you are having an asthma attack.. it takes too long to work and can cause serious harm.

Hopefully this was the information that you were looking for.

sounds like a common case of ‘croup’
croup is a viral infection with a cough and severe like
common cold symptoms
common in children its not unheard
of in teens and adults.

rest fluids decongestants and time

the only thing you can do

i hope you feel better soon!

I’ve heard that asthmatics wheeze and you hear a whistling sound when they breathe. I have asthma and don’t wheeze when I breathe, but when I cough during an attack, the cough is wheezy I think. It sounds sort of like a high pitched whistle when I cough – is that what they mean by you wheeze?

Why does this happen? Is there a reason why it happens only when I cough? Can I do anything to get rid of it?

The wheeze is when you exhale and that is because your airways are swollen and fluids are building up as well. So when you exhale or cough you get the sounddo to the narowing of the airways. During an attack you need to take your medication and let it work. If you are wheezing in other situations you need to find out what is causing the reaction and of course avoid it and see your doctor to see if there is something else you can do to further control your asthma. Hope this helps.
