My cat has always coughed a little after drinking water. He has been going to vet for fluid in his chest and taking medicine. Now he coughs bad almost like he’s choking at least once a day after he gets done drinking. Done anyone else have this problem? What can be done to fix it? Its almost like the water is going down the wrong tube. No trouble when eating. No other coughing. Thanks!

Stop putting poison in it

Per 5ml of this cough syrup there is 0.75g of Glycerin. What is Glycerin and what will happen if you have too much?

Probably just puke it up. Too much cough syrup with other ingredients can kill you. Cough syrup with only dextrom…something will get you high (after you throw up).

I have an Austrailian shepherd, blue heeler, collie mix, .about ten years hold. She goes ballistic whenever someone sneezes or coughs around her. She jumps up and starts barking and whining. What can I do to stop her from doing this?

You may need to do some pretend coughs and sneezes to train her for this one. And old dogs can definitely be taught new tricks. Distract her with some food, preferably a high value treat and then have some one "cough" just once, enough for her to notice but not enough *hopefully* to send her ballistic, as the person coughs you say a command like "leave it" and continue feeding and distracting her with the treat. Please note that "distracting" is the key to this, its not good feeding her if she is barking. But you reward her for not barking. Plus teaching her the leave it command will be beneficial if she is out at night barking at possums etc. so it is very useful. You really need to make sure you have her attention when you start this training activity. as time goes on introduce more people and increase the cough or sneeze pitch and length. and eventually you should be able to remove the treat with out her reacting to coughing or sneezing.

What shall I do toreduce the opening and closing of the ribs ehen coughing?
Thanks in advance.

I assume you had an x-ray to confirm the broken ribs? Either way, I’ve broken my ribs through falling twice now and it’s absolutely chronic pain. I do know that it takes a long time to heal, anything from 6 to 16 weeks depending on the severity etc. I also had the persistant cough, apparently it’s the bodies was of making you breathe more or you tend to breath more shallow because of the pain which won’t help you heal quicker!
Hospitals no longer strap up broken/cracked ribs, this actually slows the healing process.
Best advice I can give that helped me, when I got up first thing was having a really good cough bent over and holding the bad side, once I’d finally managed to clear my chest, it eased it a lot throughout the day! I wish you a speedy recovery!

During certain periods of the year, I’m constantly plagued by a horrible dry cough. I cough and cough but no pleghm comes out. How can I rid myself of this dry cough?

warm water or milk

I’ve had a nasty virus that’s drained me for about a week and it has involved a lot of coughing, which in turn has strained my tummy. I’m just a bit concerned that it might do some damage to the baby. Has anyone come across anything like this before? Anyone got any safe remedies i can use for the cough/pain to support getting better quicker?

ive had it on and off for nearly 3 weeks and baby is fine, im in the UK as well and was told by a few Drs and a nurse that im not allowed to take anything because of being pregnant all they will let me take is lockets! 1 Dr though when he found i couldnt sleep due to badly coughing said i could take Benylin before i go to bed to try and help me sleep so i have done that for 2 nights (last night i forgot)

I was a smoker for about three years and I have been an ex-smoker for a little over two months. During this time I haven’t really coughed up any mucus/tar or anything from my lungs. I’m kind of wondering why this is or if this is normal, because I’ve had friends tell me about how they would be coughing up junk only after four days or a week of not smoking. Also, what can I do to help get all the crap out of my lungs more quickly?

That is a little odd. I was a smoker for about 3 years as well and i started to cough up stuff after 3-4 days. Peoples bodies all work differently so it may just take longer for you. You may not have to clear your lungs in that way if you weren’t a particularly heavy smoker. As for what you can do about it, I would suggest running or doing some other cardio intensive exercise. Typically anyone will start passing more mucous then. Another thing you may want to try, if it really bothers you, is a drug to break up mucous in the lungs like Mucinex. You may also want to go to the doctor and see what they think about it.
