i Have a terrible cough and the cough syrup tastes horrid. Any ideas on how to make it taste better like adding something?

It is just a sip you have to take, so if i were you I would take a little sip of sprite or gingerale then take the medicine and then take another sip of the soda. Shouldnt be too bad.

They also sell cough medicine in pill form, if you feel like buying something new.

What makes certain types of cough syrup and cold tablets attractive to individuals looking for a PCP-like drug experience? Identify the active ingredient in this process, explain how it works in the nervous system, and discuss why these are such dangerous products to abuse.

The main ingredient in many cough syrups and medicines is DXM. DXM acts as a cough suppressant in moderate or low doses, but in high doses way over the recommended dose of these cold tablets/cough medicine, it acts as a dissociative like PCP. Both DXM and PCP act similarly on the brain –they are dissociative drugs and cause hallucinations, euphoria, etcetera. Other drugs in this family include nitrous oxide and ketamine, which are used as anesthetics. Dissociatives basically block signals from the mind to other parts of the brain and body, giving the user the many various effects of the drug (hallucinations, euphoria, sedation and drowsiness, etc). They attach to various receptors in the brain to give their effects (like the NMDA receptor). Products like these are bad to abuse because they can be addictive and can cause brain damage called Olney’s lesions. Also, many people report the experiences to be scary and overpowering.

I can’t explain everything I know here, so try looking around Wikipedia

or other websites to get more information.

I am recently trying Buckley’s cough syrup for a bad cough and was just curious on what color it is suppose to be. The stuff I got is like a whitish color I think, it taste so bad want to make sure I am taking medicine that is still good. Please help.

Haha, There is nothing wrong with it. Buckleys is, and always has been, a creamy white color, similar to that of milk (but tastes trillions of times worse). All cough syrup, from my experience, tastes awful, but Vicks is slightly more tolerable from what I’ve tasted.

If I were you, I’d go out and get some Halls Fruit Breezers. They’re really tasty cough drops and taste like sweet (not overly so) candy.

Hope this helped!

We are in the middle of winter here and all of my 19 month olds friends (and many family members including me) have been sick with coughs and colds but so far he has seemed to avoid them. He is still breastfeeding which I believe has contributed to his good health.

So everyone says that catching all these little bugs is ‘good for their immune system’ but my question is… does the fact that he is exposed to these germs but doesn’t contract the virus, still strengthen his immune system?

If you catch the cold, your body is fighting it and producing antibodies and your son is getting those antibodies in his milk, which strengthens his immune system. Getting the cold himself and fighting it off would mean that afterwards his body would be producing those antibodies on his own. Either way, he has the antibodies in his system, which strengthens him now. Since he’s not producing them himself, he might be vulnerable to the same virus in a few years after he has weaned, but by then there will be a new set of cold viruses running around anyway. I think he’s better off nursing and not getting sick.

I’m kinda paranoid when someone pulls a chugging cough or a water gun sneeze at me.

Very inconsiderate people.

Inconsiderate, yes. Chances are probably low, unless you have a weakened immune system or unhealthy lifestyle. Then you may be more likely to catch something your body couldn’t fend off.

I’ve had a cold for 3 days now, along with a cough. First it was a wet (productive) cough now it may be a dry cough, very hoarse. My friend was supposed to sleep over tonight, and we’re seeing the last performance of my sister’s play that I’ve really been looking forward to. I mean, I don’t feel under the weather at all, this cough is just annoying. Plus, I have volleyball tryouts Monday! How should I clear up this cough?

Drink a lot of warm water during the day to ease cough. You can also drink a mix of lemon juice, honey and warm water at least thrice during the day. Gargles are always effective for easing dry cough. Add some salt to lukewarm water and gargle. Gargling with warm spinach juice is also very helpful in providing relief from dry cough.

Also, chewing a piece fresh ginger with some salt sprinkled on it can bring relief from dry cough. If you find it troublesome to chew raw ginger, then it can be helpful to chop it into fine pieces and to add it to a cup of water. Boil this water till only half a cup remains in the pot. Strain this before you drink it. You can add a spoonful of honey to improve the taste. Also, ginger and honey work by coating the throat, reducing irritation and the tickling sensation common to dry coughs.

Grape juice with honey can be a useful remedy for treating dry cough. Another effective remedy is to mix half spoon of Cuscus grass in 3-4 teaspoons of coconut milk. Add one teaspoon of honey to it and drink at night before going to bed.

Turmeric, with its natural antiseptic properties, can also be of great help in treating dry cough. Add a pinch of turmeric to a spoonful of honey and drink it at bedtime. Almonds can be an excellent remedy too. Soak three or four almonds overnight. In the morning, peel the almonds and grind them to a fine paste. Add a few grains of sugar or a spoon of honey to this and eat this mixture. It can help you feel better in 2-3 days.

For ‘dry’ coughs, try and get a hold of cough lozenges (sold online and in some health-food shops). Made from the bark of the slippery elm tree, these were once medicine-chest staples. Slippery elm is loaded with a gel-like substance that coats the throat and keeps coughing to a minimum.

Try to get warm moist water vapor in your lungs by breathing deeply in the shower or put salt in a pot and boil the water and turn off and inhale the steam once it has cooled a bit with a towel over your head.

I have just been on vacation to England with my 10 month old. All throughout our visit my daughter has been well. But a few days after returning to FL USA she has developed a cough. It started off just a tiny cough but now is getting worse. What could it be? No fever, happy as can be and no other signs of illness. Could it be the return of A/C? The dramatic change in weather? If it becomes worse we will see a doctor. I am just wondering if it is something If anyone thinks I should be concerned about?

It could be allergies but I would say get her checked out by a doctor since you just made a trip out of the country.

After he coughs he hums, it’s really weird (Then again so is he)

Why do people do this? my younger cousin does it also, she makes a noise after each time she coughs.
No it isn’t physical. It’s psychological.

Perhaps it is more of a wheeze caused by asthma or a similar respiratory condition.

Can you catch a cold if someone coughs on their hand before they stick it in your butt? I don’t want my boyfriends cold.

Oh my God.

A cold is an upper respiratory infection so unless you breathe through your anus, you have nothing to worry about.

told me that cough suppressants that are sold over the counter are not a good option for folks with bronchitis. He said they are really useless and prolong the cough. Anyway, some good home remedies please.

miz a tsp of honey into warm water and drink it
